Review Review Due to increased probablity of businesses being subject to an audit and the fact that over 60% of audits result in a deficiency assessment, businesses should consider an exposure review of their potential sales tax liability. An exposure review would afford an opportunity to determine up front what the potential sales tax liability would be, if and when an audit is notified. If an issue needs to be corrected, necessary changes may be made, based on each individual case, to minimize the tax liability risk during the audit process. In short, a review would help pre-plan the audit strategy and be in control when the time comes.We perform the following procedures during our review:

Review record keeping and accounting methods

Review taxability issues related to the goods and services sold or purchased

Review of sales tax return preparation process as used by the state auditors

Recommend changes, if applicable, to procedures in place

Estimate potential sales tax liability exposure as a result of an audit

Audit Audit RepresentationIf you have been notified by the state for sales and use tax audit or are in the process of one, we can represent you in your audit to the state. Our experience, knowledge and familiarity with the state audit procedures will help you minimize your audit assessment. Also, keep in mind, that if you end up with an audit deficiency once, the probabilitiy is extremenly high that the state would audit the business again within four years. Therefore, it is important to get it right the first time. In our audit review and representation assignments we plan the audit strategy, identify weak areas and estimate your exposure by conducting an internal audit or pre-audit compliance review, including analyzing sampling and estimating methods, test periods, taxability issues etc. A compliance review reveals whether you have properly reported tax. Any tax assessed as a result of an audit will result in levy of penalty and interest . Regular penalty will be added at 10%, while additional or fruad penalty is 50% of the tax assessed if you under reported tax by 25 %. Avoiding penalties and interest can result in substantial savings to your company. However, appropriate procedures have to be employed to ensure that the assessments are kept as low as possible. Also, the audit progress is constantly monitored and you will be kept updated without having to interact with the auditor. We are confident that our involvement will help you reduce business interruption and ensure the most favorable results possible.

Redetermination Redetermination and Hearing ProcessYou have the rights to request a determination of your tax assessment if you recently completed a sales tax audit and were found deficient. Our firm assists clients in the redetermination and hearing process to appeal the audit assessments and has been able to obtain substantial reductions in the tax liability including waiver of penalty and interest. You may even feel like your audit was fair and that you truly owe the tax. Yet, you may not have taken into account that you could be over- paying tax in other areas of your business, or paying tax on items you shouldn't have been. Auditors will not knowingly look in these areas. Also, auditors are human, and occasionally make mistakes in calculations or sampling. There are always alternative methods of sampling and estimations and the auditor may have used a method more favorable to the State. Additionally, you may have purchased goods that had the tax paid already by a supplier, but not know about it. HRSS CPAs & Advisors would meticulously review these areas. Regardless of whether you've already settled with the state, it won't cost you anything to have us conduct a quick review of your assessments papers. If we think we can help, we may offer to work on contingency. In most cases you do not pay us unless we secure a refund or reduction of your obligation.

Page 2 Senior Auditor - Assurance SeniorWe are currently seeking qualified candidates for an excellent career opportunity as an Assurance Senior in our Houston office.ResponsibilitiesIdeal candidate is expected to perform all aspects of the audit with minimum supervision. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel and assess clients' satisfaction. Proactively maintain contact with the client throughout the year. Coordinate day-to-day duties of planning, fieldwork and inform managers/partners of the engagement status. Prepare financial statements with disclosures and validate, test and assess various control systems. Adapt the audit approach to the changing client environment.
